CANSANO
Cansano is situated in one of the most suggestive view of Central Appennines at 850 metres on the level sea,
at 15 kilometres from the motorway (Sulmona), 22 km from Roccaraso, 180 km from Rome and from Naples and 90 km from the Adriatic beaches (Pescara).
It is a pleasant place of mountain dominated by the majestic Maiella Mountain;
A medieval village that, because of the devastating human action, the wars and the earthquake,
doesn't preserve the remains of the most ancient churchs and of the castel that belonged to
the defensive system of the Peligna Valley.
The territory even includes a vast cultural area thanks to the discovery and
the utilization of the Ocriticum archaeological templar area and the proud preservation
of its own history in the Documents Centre, a cultural centre of national interest.
A sense of peace and quiet characterizes the roads of the village;
the houses and the doors preserve the dignity and the warmth of people who
had been living here for centuries. Cansano is an ideal place to have a rest and
relax exposed to the nature and its mild climate, but even to practice summer and winter sports.
Infact it is in the middle of protected areas system such as:
Abruzzi National Park, Majella National Park and Sirente-Velino National Park.
Furthermore it has a certain proximity to the first skiing basin of Roccaraso present
on the Abruzzi territory (Aremogna and Mount Pratello) and to other winter tourist towns like:
Campo di Giove, Passo S. Leonardo and Scanno.
